Proposition 19 is new legislation that may help you. The Home Protection for Seniors, Severely Disabled, Families, and Victims of Wildfire or Natural Disasters Act. Find out more from the California Board of Equalization. You may be able to minimize your property taxes if you meet the criteria. For example, you purchased your home 30 years ago for $150,000 and are paying property taxes on that price. The new home you plan to purchase, for example is $400,000, an increased amount; however you may be eligible for a property tax discount for the amount in between.
